Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace, One School at a Time
Author: Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin
Suggested by: Sandra Braun
What is it about? An inspiring journalistic account of a man who, after failing to summit a famous Himalayan peak, discovered his life's work in a small Pakistani village. Founding father of the Central Asia Institute, Mortenson supports the fight against Islamic extremism in a unique way: through collaborative efforts to alleviate poverty and improve access to education, especially for girls. A moving and captivating read about this man's incredible humanitarian struggles in a region where Americans are often feared and hated.

Ever wonder just what was cooking in our pre-history along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers? Why the French have their esteemed reputation in world cuisine? Where American food has its roots? Cuisine & Culture is an engaging, enlightening and fun resource that draws connections between major historical events and how and why these events affected and defined the culinary traditions of different societies.
