Escape to Bhutan : Cultural Trek and Tour

Spring and Fall • Price TBA

Journey to one of the world’s smallest and most extraordinary countries in the great Himalayas… the “Dragon Kingdom” of Bhutan. Nested between India, Tibet and Nepal, Bhutan is a proud nation of one of the earth’s best-preserved ecologies and cultures. Opened up to tourism in during the mid 1980s, Bhutan hosts relatively few tourists each year. The landlocked country of two million people are practicing Buddhists. They greet you with a genuine smile and penetrating personal warmth. The breathtaking countryside scenery is full of thick pine forests, raging wild rivers, mosaics of rich cultivated fields, crafted Bhutanese style farm houses, prayer flags, and fortress like Dzongs and monasteries. Our local guides take us into villages providing expert interpretation of their culture. Visitors stay in local guesthouses, go to remote villages and hidden valleys, and immerse themselves in rare and enchanting encounters. We’ll take a look at Bhutanese art forms such as thangka painting, textile weaving, woodcarving, and papermaking. Often you will witness demonstrations of the art forms and creations crafted by Bhutanese artists. You will attend and participate in two festivals, where the Bhutanese gather in celebration wearing their finest clothes and jewelry. Dance rituals are performed in colorful dress and masks. A three-day cultural trek through bamboo and pine forests allows you to witness the fresh air and beauty of the Himalayan foothills. Join us! This is truly an adventure of a lifetime!

Add a fascinating extension into Cambodia to explore the ancient jungle ruins of Angkor Wat!

This adventure can be customized for as little as two people! Ask for a quote today!

My wife and I have been around the world and consider ourselves seasoned travelers, but both of us shed a few tears at the airport departing this charmed country [and our guide]. I’m still struggling to articulate what a momentous experience this was for us, but suffice it to say that I will never forget my time in Bhutan.

Nepal: Khumbu Teahouse Trek

Custom Departures • Price TBA

Nestled in the cradle of the highest mountains on earth, Nepal is a country of amazing extremes – colorful cultures, superb scenery and fascinating history! From the “forest of temples” in exotic Kathmandu to the famous Thyangboche Monastery in the Khumbu, to the quiet villages in the roadless highlands in the Dudh Kosi Gorge, we enjoy wonderful cultural as well as scenic immersion. Trekking is, without question, the best way to experience this spectacular landscape and to meet its people. Our seventeen-day trek takes us into the heart of the spectacular Mt. Everest, or Khumbu region. We trek along the popular and age-old footpaths of the deep Dudh Kosi gorge, up a less traveled route towards Cho Oyu, through beautiful rhododendron forests to Gokyo Lake (15,700′). Instead of camping, we enjoy nightly accommodations and meals in local teahouses. Our particular trek winds through small villages with a few rest days and lots of opportunities to share milk-tea with local yak herders and learn firsthand their traditional lifestyles. The genuine warmth of the Nepali people and the vast beauty of this untrampled area makes lasting impressions and a truly unique Adventure Associates journey!
